about:
Luca Maio,
born in 1983, originally from Italy, now based in Berlin.
After years of working in illustration and tattooing, in 2015 he founded a tattoo studio in Desenzano del Garda, Italy. The space became a hybrid between a professional atelier and a personal lab for visual experimentation.
His current work focuses on ceramics and mixed media sculpture, often integrating glass and light. Each piece reflects a world of symbolic figures, dreamlike tension, and an intimate irony.
artist statement:
My work is rooted in personal symbolism, shaped by an instinctive and independent process. I create ceramic and mixed-media sculptures that evoke a sense of playfulness and quiet unease. Through the use of clay, glass, and light, I build characters that often sit between the mystical and the mundane.
Coming from a background in tattooing and drawing, my practice remains strongly connected to line, storytelling, and a DIY approach.
I identify with a queer and non conformist sensibility, and I strive to let that speak quietly but clearly through the figures I create.
